Hotel Utano Kyoto is a historic residence originally built in the early Showa era as the home of Kyoto industrialist Mitsuzo Owatari. Carefully renovated and transformed into an elegant retreat, it now serves as a sanctuary for travelers.
Designated as one of 'the buildings and gardens that make Kyoto attractive', the hotel is distinguished by its serene ambiance, expansive grounds, and picturesque Japanese garden. Escape the bustle of the city and immerse yourself in a timeless haven of tranquility, where both body and mind can find rest.
Echoes of
history,
by design

Designs That Echo Its History Can Be Found Throughout the Premises.
In addition to the Meiji-era Japanese-Western style residence and the traditional Japanese garden, the lobby and lounge dining area—overlooking the garden—feature remarkable artistic elements. These include a framed calligraphy piece of the hotel's name by renowned Japanese calligrapher Kenichi Kuroda and luminous washi paper installations, including the "Wall of Light", "Pillar of Light", and shoji paper design transoms, created by Kyoto-based washi designer Eriko Horiki.

Throughout the hotel, architectural details reminiscent of its former grandeur can be found at every turn. While thoughtful renovations have been made to ensure a comfortable stay, the historical significance of the building has been carefully preserved, allowing it to be reborn as a hotel for the modern era.
